Why Does My Wife Tap her Elbow?

For years when my wife tapped her elbow I thought it meant "I love you".
I now know she is indicating to someone in code that I am cheap.
Let's set aside for the moment that whomever she is demonstrating this gesture to means nothing to either of us. I don't care - apparantly she does.
